MISSION STATEMENT

Our Vision is for a society that demonstrates it values and

respects people with a disability and provides equal access

to all aspects of community life.

Tasmanians with Disabilities Inc. is a consumer driven, peak

organisation of individuals and their organisations that advocates for

the advancement and full participation in the Tasmanian community of

people with disabilities.

Tasmanians with Disabilities works to improve the living standards and

fights for the rights of people with disabilities, both in Tasmania and

throughout Australia. We were established by people with disabilities

as Disabled Peoples’ International (Tasmania) Inc. in May 1983. In

1996 the name “Tasmanians with Disabilities” was adopted to more

accurately reflect its work. People without a disability are very

welcome as associate members, however, the Constitution ensures

that the organisation is controlled by and for people with disabilities.

The Organisation aims to achieve the following goals for people with

disabilities:

. the right to employment;

. equality of opportunity;

. the right to education;

. the right to rehabilitation;

. the right to recreational and social integration;

. the right to economic security;

. the right to independent living;

. the right to full participation in all the activities of

the wider community;

. the right to participate in any decision-making

processes affecting people with disabilities; and

. the right of those people who require advocates to

have the advocate of their own choice.

Tasmanians With Disabilities Inc has defined three priority areas to

concentrate on in the immediate future. They are:

*Page 4

MISSION STATEMENT (Cont.)

 · Education/Public Awareness;

· Disability Rights/Advocacy; and

· Communication/Partnerships.

 We also recognise the need to Strengthen Our Organisation by:

· Improving practise and procedures;

· Responding to members’ needs; and

· Providing opportunities for social interaction.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

I am pleased to present the Tasmanians with Disabilities Inc. Annual

Report for 2010-2011.

This year we have participated in the continuing consultations about the

feasibility of a National Disability Insurance Scheme. We have run a

forum in conjunction with Physical Disability Australia (PDA) as we are a

member of that organisation. This forum gathered the views of our

members and others interested in the concept of a National Disability

Insurance Scheme for inclusion in PDA’s submission to the Productivity

Commission inquiry in to the feasibility of such a scheme.

We also worked with other national organisations (The Australian

Federation of Disability Organisations, and Blind Citizens Australia) by

supporting them in running forums in Hobart to gather information for

their submission to the Productivity Commission inquiry.

The four All-Terrain wheelchairs which Surf Life Saving Tasmania

manage on our behalf are proving to be very popular. Surf Life Saving

Tasmania have placed two of the chairs in the south of the state,, one

in the north and one in the northwest.

These chairs are designed for adults, and, when we found out that

there are similar chairs designed for children we put in a grant

application to the Tasmanian Community Fund for seven thousand five

hundred dollars to buy four of the children’s chairs. This application was

successful, and we are arranging for Surf Life Saving Tasmania to

manage the placement and hiring of them as they do with the four

chairs we already have.

We are pleased to work with Surf Life Saving Tasmania on this project,

and thank them for managing it for us.

Our website continues to be, along with our newsletter Taslink, our

most important means of communicating with members, and with the

wider community.

I Thank our Coordinator Susan Baldock for her work in maintaining our

website. I think we can be justly proud of it.

*Page 10

PRESIDENT’S REPORT (Cont.)

We are pleased to be working with one of our Organisational members the

Tasmanian Amputee Society Inc. helping them set up and maintain a website

for their organisation. We hope that they will find, as we have, that their

website becomes an important means of communicating with their members

and makes the wider community more aware of their work.

It is pleasing to note that the number of organisations and groups using our

centre for meetings or social activities has increased this year.

State Council has met five times this year, four meetings by teleconference

and one combined teleconference and face to face meeting.

I thank the executive and members of state council for your work this year,

and a special thanks to our Coordinator Susan Baldock for her work and

support.

I also wish to thank all members of TwD who give their time to represent us in

many areas of the community here in Tasmania and nationally.

On the state level we are represented on the Hobart City Council, Clarence

City Council, Glenorchy City Council and Launceston City Council Access

Advisory Committees.

On the national level David Gordon is able to represent our interests as a

member of the board of Physical Disability Australia, and also through his

involvement with the Consumer Health Forum and the Australian

Communications Consumer Action Network.

On behalf of State Council and members I thank the Department of Health and

Human Services for their financial assistance.

I also thank The Tasmanian Community Fund and the other organisations and

individuals who have supported us this year.

Jan Miller.

AUDITOR’S REPORT

Independent auditor's report to members of Tasmanians With

Disabilities Inc.

I have audited the special purpose financial report of Tasmanians With

Disabilities Inc. for the year ended 30 June 2011.

Management Committee's Responsibility for the Financial Report

The Management Committee is responsible for preparation and fair

presentation of the special purpose financial report and information

contained therein. This responsibility includes establishing and

maintaining internal controls relevant to preparation and fair

presentation of the financial report that is free from material

misstatement, whether due to fraud or error; selecting and applying

appropriate accounting policies; and making accounting estimates that

are reasonable in the circumstances.

Auditor's Responsibility

My responsibility is to express an opinion on the financial report based

on my audit. I have conducted my audit in accordance with Australian

Auditing Standards to provide reasonable assurance as to whether the

accounts are free of material misstatement. My procedures included

examination, on a test basis, of evidence supporting amounts and other

disclosures in the accounts, and the evaluation of accounting policies

and significant accounting estimates. These procedures have been

undertaken to form an opinion as to whether, in all material respects,

the financial statements are presented fairly in accordance with

Australian Accounting Concepts and Standards and other mandatory

professional reporting requirements (Urgent Issues Group Consensus

Views) (where applicable), and statutory requirements so as to present

a view which is consistent with my understanding of the Association's

financial position and the results of its operations and cash flows.

I believe that the audit evidence I have obtained is sufficient and

appropriate to provide a basis for my audit opinion.

Independence

To the best of my knowledge and belief, there has been no

contravention of auditor independence and any applicable code of

professional conduct in relation to the audit.

*Page 15

AUDITOR’S REPORT (Cont.)

Limitation of Scope

It is not practicable to establish complete accounting control over all

transactions processed by the Association from all of its activities.

Verification therefore has been limited to the transactions recorded

in the Association's financial records.

Audit Opinion

In my opinion, the special purpose financial report of Tasmanians

With Disabilities Inc. presents fairly in accordance with applicable

Accounting Standards and other mandatory professional reporting

requirements in Australia the financial position of the Association

as at 30 June 2011 and the results of its operations for the year

then ended.
